Basketball in Australia is in its infant stages right now because the sport is transitioning from rugby. Basketball is taken the country by storm right because of people like Ben Simmons and Matthew Dellavedova who is an Australian born NBA player on the Cleveland Cavaliers. We see more and more young men and women joining their grassroots program with the opportunity at free education and a chance to play the sport they love. Right now about 1 million people play the sport in Australia and that number is increasing daily. Before long basketball will become the nation's main sport because it is cheap and fun to play. Basketball is taking over the world and all we can do is sit back and watch the show in front of us.
Australia's Basketball Developmental Institute (ABDI) is an Australian company with experience at the highest levels. They offer basketball camps in order to help the skill development of children and they claim to have strong ties in both Australia and the USA. ABDI maintains a partnership with Blue Print Basketball, a basketball company straight out of Chicago, and through this relationship they offer US College Recruitment along with Developmental Tours. The founder and President of ABDI, Rhys Murphy, played for the Hornsby Spiders prior to his full ride scholarship to Oregon State University, in the US, to play collegiate basketball. Shortly afterwards he went and played for Chaminade University of Honolulu. Besides the development training, extensive experience with the US, and experienced trainers, the ABDI focuses mainly on their three core principles - improving basketball skills, teaching life lessons through basketball, and encouraging the development of good character. Many players like Ben Simmons have come from this program who is the number 1 high school player in America in 2015 have come from this program. Ben has signed with LSU on a full athletic scholarship, so basketball really does change lives. Lots of Australian players want to play in the U.S. because they feel it is the best way to get exposure for the NBA and they are correct.
