Now the winning tradition in the olympics has been continued by Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, and Chris Paul. The United States' world domination of basketball will continue for decades.

In the United States there are over 250 college basketball programs. These programs range from D1 to Naia which would be the lowest. These schools give kids the opportunity to go to school for free and play the game they love while doing so. These schools give the athletes the titles of student-athletes because they must maintain a certain GPA to stay on the team. Also in hIgh school they must obtain a certain act or sat test score to qualify for a scholarship. This is great because not all kids can afford college in our country, so basketball in America opens up avenues to young men and women that might not be in their regular lives.
Basketball has become a religion in the United States of America. People who join the religion vary from ages 1 too 100 and this religion does not discriminate, the more the merrier. In the United States basketball is the more popular than anywhere else on the world besides China. Here basketball makes the most profit out of any country due to shoe, clothing, and ticket sales behind china also. The U.S.A is the birth place of the game and Dr. James Naismith invented it to get inside from the harsh and cruel winters of New England up at Springfield College. Soon after the game reached other parts of the country people wanted more and more of it, so now colleges started making basketball a part of their schools. One of the first is Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas, which hired Naismith in 1898 to head its basketball program. From there on the sport became an epidemic hitting towns, colleges and people with no sign of stopping. Eventually the popularity led to the creation of the NBA(national basketball association) on June 6, 1946 in New York City and the rest is history.
